Those who love their houses, care for their comfort, elegance and looks, do often keep adding, replacing furniture items and that includes outdoor storage bench maintenance, too. Stained, sealed or painted, no matter what your furniture item is, maintenance is easy if you plan for it from the beginning.

Whether you have bought your White outdoor storage bench from a local store, or have built it yourself, there is time when you would need to reseal or repaint it to enhance its durability.

If you’ve built or bought a white outdoor storage bench, seal it and let it dry properly before you bring it in use for the first time. There are a many sealers available with do-it-yourselfers instructions. Just visit any of your local hardware or home supply or department store for a color, stain or type that suits your requirements. Water based seals are liked for their easy to do nature, but oil based processes protect longer.

There are not many people who consider the type of wood their furniture is made of, but it makes a lot of difference, in fact. Cedar makes the most popular wood furniture and requires lesser maintenance than most other wood furniture. It is commonly used in New England and the west coast. Western red cedar is common throughout the country, white outdoor storage benches made of cedar are weather, insect and decay resistant, strong and as durable as oak.
Some also prefer Brazilian pine for low maintenance wood. It’s not as water-proof or sun or decay resistant, but it’s a strong wood and liked very much for its honey yellow color.

Most can not resist their temptation to set out their new white outdoor storage bench as soon as unloads in their backyard or garden. While the recommended procedure includes a thorough check, redoing screws or bolts and look for possible damages and crackers in even hidden corners, some times there may be cracks, chips or missing factory sealing. If your white outdoor storage bench is raw wood, it is better to seal it with a good grade of Tung oil and a rag before setting it outside.

Whatever you have bought for your outdoor storage requirements, all wood furniture needs to be cleaned at times. White outdoor storage benches with a polyurethane or shellac material can be washed and cleaned with mild soapy and warm water. But, do not forget to dry the bench with soft cloths as soon as you have washed it. You can use one used terry cloth towels, if you have one. It is advisable to keep these materials out of the sun until they have completely dried, just to avoid cracks. Don’t let it air dry or some water stains may appear requiring a re-wash. There are some different special water spot cleaner are available to remove the stubborn spots that do not clear from ordinary wash. Despite of all this cleaning and care, white outdoor storage benches will eventually need more than a good wash and rinse. One can reseal and repaint their outdoor storage benches every two years at least to keep them looking new or nearly new. Some do prefer weathered look to brand new though so they can simply keep watching the patina of age and weather-worn wood developing over the time.
